Solid tools, great price

I was a little skeptical, but Freeman has made a name for themselves with their nailers - many professionals and contractors have some Freeman guns in their trucks. I purchased this for a difficult crawl space insulation project, drilling holes for Tapcons 1.5" deep into concrete (3.25" screws through 2" foam boards). I didn't want to drag my corded hammer drill around, it's very tight down there - really grim and sucky gig. A lot of this work will be lying on my side due to low clearance, so I can't really lean in on the drill, and my corded drill is big and heavy.These are pretty heavy-weight tools, constructions seems solid. I was a little disappointed in my first few holes as far as drilling time and effort, but I was using the bit that Tapcon includes with their screws. I bought a similar Milwaukee bit, and now the Freeman bangs out holes like my corded drill. Very pleased. The impact has a lot of power, haven't tried anything like lug nuts but it's doing a good job of sistering joists with big lag bolts. The kit includes 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2" socket connectors for the impact, a nice add that saves you a trip to the store. I haven't messed with the LED light, seems like something I wouldn't waste a big battery on.And batteries - I wanted a drill with two batteries, and I wanted a desktop charger vs. a plug-the-wire-in deal; a charger that detects failed/damaged batteries and stops charging when the battery is full. So good to go with those issues, though the batteries are small. I got probably 20 to 25 1.5" holes (in hard concrete) on one battery. Freeman does sell a larger capacity battery for a reasonable price. Also, the first time I mounted one of the batteries to the charger, I got the "damaged battery" warning - I took it off and stuck it back on and got the green light, so it seems OK.One error in the manual, saying to turn the drill's chuck clockwise to remove bits... and to turn it clockwise to tighten. These aren't brushless tools, but for the money a good choice for hardcore homeowners that don't want to drop two to three times the price on a contractor brand. As usual, I'll update if they fall apart, but so far seems like a great deal on a solid tool set, from a known brand that seems like they'll be around for some time, with extra batteries available and more tools to use them on. You can buy these locally, but Amazon's price is much lower than big-box retail, compare and see.
