Finding a Successor: Freeman G2FR2190 vs. My Trusted 20-Year-Old Ridgid

Finding a worthy successor to a two-decade-old Ridgid framing nailer has been no small task. I specifically need a tool compatible with 21-degree full-head nails. I have tested several brand-name and budget models but all have fallen short. I recently purchased the Freeman G2FR2190 to put it through its paces.

One issue with many of the guns was jamming of smaller nails in the magazine. When new racks of nails were loaded, they would slide beside each other rather than feed straight. By limiting the size of nails this gun would accept, this is a non-issue.

An improvement over my old gun is the placement of the fire selector switch. On my old unit, the switch was in the trigger and could easily be moved out of position. The switch on this unit is well located on the body.

The included rafter hook is a nice value-added feature. Several manufacturers have you purchase it separately.

During testing, I was able to drive 3” ring shank nails with minimal issues.
